Episode Synopsis

With 33 days remaining, Wes and Gwen call in a medic after getting sick from the toxic aloe they ate. Both are suffering from nausea and swelling, but neither is in serious danger.

Elsewhere, Ryan builds a deadfall trap in hopes of adding another food source. At Suzanne and Seth's camp, tension continues to build. Suzanne tries to get Seth up early to hunt, but he moves slowly and resents feeling like she is acting as his mother. Suzanne is losing confidence in his ability to contribute. Seth eventually makes it into the hunting blind, while Suzanne spends the morning gathering fish bait, firewood and water. Before long, Seth falls asleep in the blind and begins snoring.

Kate continues struggling alone. Her new area is barren, and fishing produces little. Meanwhile, Makani remains committed to avoiding meat and says she wants to live in harmony with the animals. Bulent thinks her philosophy is absurd but mostly keeps his opinions to himself.

As a storm rolls in, winds increase, thunder approaches and temperatures drop sharply. Kate has an especially difficult night. Cold, exhausted and isolated, she begins screaming and spirals into a complete meltdown similar to the one she experienced during her previous challenge in Panama. Bulent prepares himself for a miserable night, while Suzanne and Seth sit back-to-back trying to conserve body heat.

On Day 9, Kate wakes completely exhausted and decides to abandon her camp in search of new teammates.

Suzanne immediately wants to get back to work, gathering water and firewood and improving the boma, but Seth is again slow to get moving. At Bulent and Makani's camp, Makani wants to build a roof over the fire. Bulent sees little reason to bother. She even tries convincing him that the project was originally his idea, but he refuses to play along.

Wes and Gwen have recovered enough from the aloe poisoning for Wes to resume hunting while Gwen works on the shelter. Wes takes a shot at a squirrel but misses.

Kate continues trekking through the heat. By 3 p.m., temperatures have climbed to 104°F, and she is thirsty, sunburned and exhausted. She eventually stumbles across Wes and Gwen's camp. They are hesitant to add a third person after their experience with Joshua, but agree to give Kate a chance as long as she contributes.

Ryan checks his deadfall trap and finds that it has been triggered, but nothing was caught.

With Kate now carrying a second bow, she and Wes head out together and spot a small group of duikers. Kate lands a shot, and the team follows a blood trail hoping for a much-needed kill. The trail eventually disappears. Kate takes the failure extremely hard and, already physically and emotionally depleted, decides to tap out.

At Bulent's camp, his strategy has become simply ignoring Makani to avoid conflict. Makani finally confronts him about their lack of teamwork. Bulent offers to banish himself from the partnership, and Makani agrees that separating is probably best.

On Day 11, Makani officially leaves Bulent's camp to search for another team. Their departure is surprisingly friendly, and Bulent is clearly relieved to be alone.

Back at Suzanne and Seth's camp, the imbalance has become impossible to ignore. Seth spends his time sitting in a shaded spot near the water while Suzanne continues hauling firewood and gathering materials for the boma. Frustrated with carrying most of the workload, Suzanne tells him that if he does not want to contribute more, she is willing to leave.

The episode ends with Kate gone, Makani searching for a new team, Bulent happily alone, and Suzanne and Seth's partnership nearing its breaking point.
