Episode Synopsis

In “Typhoon Warning,” the remaining shipwrecked teams continue the challenge in the Philippines with Boat 1 (Shawn Bretschneider, Patrick French, Allison Frueh), Boat 2 (Ana Lis Pitter, Darrin Reay, Malu Beyonce), Boat 3 (Jamie Frizzell, Dani Beau, Jarrell Banks), and Boat 4 (Adam Kavanagh, Amanda Wilson), with Jonny Yates already medically tapped.

On day 13, at 8 AM and 72 degrees, Boat 1 (Shawn, Patrick, Allison) is still dealing with tension. Patrick needs time away from the group and heads out spearfishing alone. Back on the beach, Allison finds a large fishing net and begins working on turning it into a gill net, hoping it can become a better food strategy than their failed trap.

Boat 3 (Jamie, Dani, Jarrell) continues to struggle with hunger and priorities. Jarrell is desperate to build a raft so he can search for food more effectively, and this time the team agrees. They gather long pieces of bamboo, but the build quickly causes friction. Jarrell wants to keep it simple and functional, while Dani wants a more built-out raft. Jamie tries to play peacemaker as the team argues through the design.

Boat 4 (Adam, Amanda) is adjusting after Jonny’s departure. Adam goes fishing with the fishing kit, still sad about losing his teammate, while Amanda forages along the beach. When Adam’s line gets snagged, he thinks he may have a fish and risks climbing into the sharp, rocky current to retrieve it. The current is rough, and the fish escapes, but Adam at least recovers his hook.

Boat 2 (Ana Lis, Darrin, Malu) has fresh water and plenty of coconuts thanks to its bamboo plumbing system, but protein remains the missing piece. Malu is terrified of falling coconuts around camp. Darrin finds a snake, and Ana Lis chases it down with a machete. Darrin suggests cooking it skin-on so the meat does not burn, while Ana Lis wants to eat the guts. When the snake turns out to be full of worms, Ana Lis is still willing to eat it, but Malu wants no part of it.

By day 15, Boat 2’s water project is still working well, giving them one of the strongest camp upgrades of the challenge. With water handled, Darrin sets out on a steep jungle hike to investigate a house marked on the map. Back near the beach, Ana Lis and Malu find fruit trees like mango and papaya, but none have fruit. Ana Lis then takes Malu to the cemetery she found earlier, knowing Malu “believes in things.” Malu becomes emotional, cleans up the cemetery, and feels connected to the island spirits.

At 11 AM and 78 degrees, Darrin continues his jungle hike and eventually finds a small camp with a sailcloth tent. The search pays off when he discovers several useful items, including broken binoculars, sailcloth, a cooking pot, and a pickaxe head.

Boat 1 (Shawn, Patrick, Allison) finally gets a food win when Shawn forages along the rugged coastline and finds five sea urchins. The team eats them raw and enjoys the meal, giving Boat 1 a rare moment of success after days of frustration, failed traps, and team conflict.

Boat 4 (Adam, Amanda) also finds momentum with food. Amanda goes fishing with the fishing kit while Adam heads out with the spear. Adam lands a fish, then Amanda feels tension on her line and pulls in one of her own. After losing Jonny and struggling through the emotional fallout, the successful catches give the remaining pair a much-needed boost.

Meanwhile, Boat 3’s raft project starts looking less promising. The raft becomes large and complicated, and when the team gets it into the water and all three climb aboard, it starts to sink. Jarrell is furious, calling it a “ghetto raft,” while Dani wants to add more bamboo. Jarrell disagrees, and with dark skies moving in, the raft project is put on pause.

By late afternoon, the weather turns dangerous. At 4:30 PM and 70 degrees, Boat 2 (Ana Lis, Darrin, Malu) sees a serious storm rolling in as the tide rises. Boat 4 (Adam, Amanda) is happy with its shelter but worried. Boat 1 (Shawn, Patrick, Allison) gets ready for the bad weather, with Allison scared of what is coming. Boat 3 (Jamie, Dani, Jarrell) gathers palm fronds to cover its shelter, while Jamie worries they may be facing a typhoon.

Boat 2 reinforces its shelter, and Ana Lis becomes worried because Darrin is worried, finally showing real respect for his survival judgment. The storm threatens up to six inches of rain and 35 mph winds. Malu is scared and just hopes she can sleep. Overnight, the storm hits hard: by 1 AM, winds reach 25 mph; by 1:45 AM, it is 60 degrees with 32 mph winds and heavy rain; and by 3:15 AM, winds hit 35 mph with temperatures down to 56 degrees. Boat 3 is soaked, Boat 4’s floor gets wet, and everyone fights to keep fire alive through the cold rain.

On day 16, the storm briefly breaks. At 7 AM and 62 degrees, the teams take in the damage: downed trees, mud, wet debris, and clouds still hanging over the mountains. Amanda is wrecked, and Boat 4’s camp is exhausted. Boat 1 is soaked, and Shawn is struggling with pain all over, but Patrick checks the gill net and finds success: three fish. Allison is thrilled, giving Boat 1 another badly needed food win.

Boat 3 (Jamie, Dani, Jarrell) tries to recover at 9:30 AM and 70 degrees by getting the fire going again. Dani, still without protein, takes the Pulaski and heads toward the mangroves to search for food. She finds nipa palms, which grow where saltwater meets freshwater, and uses them as a clue to search for a freshwater stream. Following the signs, she discovers taro, young banana plants, and a flowing river. She also finds the remains of a strange structure with a wicker basket, boar jaw, and what she calls “witchcraft stuff.” With rain coming down hard, she heads back to camp.

Back at Boat 3, Jamie gets the fire going, and by 5 PM Dani is relieved to return to warmth. She tells the team about the river, possible fish, signs of boar, banana trees, and taro roots, and wants the whole team to go check it out.

Boat 4 (Adam, Amanda), meanwhile, decides its current location has run out of usefulness. At 11 AM and 74 degrees, they choose to take advantage of the break in the weather and move toward a temporary camp along a riverbed. The hike is hard, with both survivors carrying three life preservers, a pot of water, and supplies. But by 5 PM, the rain has returned, making the trek miserable and raising doubts about whether leaving their shelter was the right call.

By the end of the episode, the typhoon threat has reshuffled the game. Boat 1 has food from the gill net, Boat 2 has water and salvaged tools, Boat 3 may have found a better inland food-and-water zone, and Boat 4 is caught mid-move in bad weather, wondering if its search for a better camp came at exactly the wrong time.
