Episode Synopsis

In “No Love Lost on the Lost Coast,” the fallout from the brutal shipwreck opening continues as the teams try to stabilize in the Philippines. The four groups are Boat 1 (Shawn Bretschneider, Patrick French, Allison Frueh), Boat 2 (Ana Lis Pitter, Darrin Reay, Malu Beyonce), Boat 3 Jamie Frizzell, Dani Beau, Jarrell Banks), and Boat 4 (Jonny Yates, Adam Kavanagh, Amanda Wilson).

Boat 3 (Jamie, Dani, Jarrell) has finally reached a new beach and found fresh water, but the move comes at a cost. Dani is still recovering after being stung by a box jellyfish, while Jamie starts feeling nauseous and feverish, worrying that he may be dealing with heat stroke. Their new shelter location also proves risky when the tide comes dangerously close at night, forcing them to think about moving farther from the coast before rain arrives.

Boat 2 (Ana Lis, Darrin, Malu) focuses on building a serious shelter, modeled after the abandoned structure they found. Darrin works on a raised platform with an A-frame roof and palm thatching, though he complains about putting so much effort into a large, comfortable shelter for the women. Ana Lis clashes with him over palm-frond weaving techniques, and even after Darrin switches to her easier method, she complains about that too. Malu tries to keep the peace, eventually calling for a team pow-wow where they agree to work together. Still, the tension between Ana Lis and Darrin keeps simmering, with Ana Lis convinced Darrin is jealous of her survival ability.

Boat 4 (Jonny, Adam, Amanda) has the strongest camp setup, thanks to the abandoned shelter they were able to salvage. With a concrete floor, bamboo beds, a fire, and a Swiss Family Robinson feel, their shelter holds up well through the storm. They even get a surprise food win when rats visit during the night and Adam kills one with a stick, giving the team a rat breakfast they actually enjoy. But Jonny starts feeling unwell, waking up sweaty with a rapid heart rate. A medic check reveals high blood pressure, putting a question mark over his condition.

Boat 1 (Shawn, Patrick, Allison) continues to struggle with teamwork. After a failed inland hike toward a marked “shack” on their map, Shawn remains angry that Patrick split off from the group. The next morning, Shawn wants to focus on building a fish trap, while Patrick and Allison want to finish improving the shelter. They scour the coast for useful debris and find the remains of an old boat and some chain, which they can use as part of their A-frame shelter.

As rain moves in, each team’s campcraft is tested. Boat 3 (Jamie, Dani, Jarrell) has to move its shelter away from the tide, Boat 2 (Ana Lis, Darrin, Malu) pushes to finish its roof before the weather hits, and Boat 1 (Shawn, Patrick, Allison) ends up soaked. Boat 4 (Jonny, Adam, Amanda) stays dry in its upgraded shelter, though Jonny still cannot sleep. By night five, the storm leaves everyone cold and wet except the best-prepared camp.

After the rain, the teams shift back to food and resources. Boat 3 (Jamie, Dani, Jarrell) needs firewood and larger logs after its fire goes out around 4 AM. Boat 2 (Ana Lis, Darrin, Malu) is ready to start looking for food. Boat 4 (Jonny, Adam, Amanda) goes exploring for washed-up items and fishing opportunities. Boat 1 (Shawn, Patrick, Allison) splits again when Patrick wants to return to the inland mystery-shack hike. Allison goes with him, while Shawn stays behind to tend camp and work on his fish trap.

Patrick and Allison eventually find the remains of a primitive weather station and salvage useful items, including a teapot, chisel, and hammer. Back at Boat 1 camp (Shawn, Patrick, Allison), Shawn grows increasingly frustrated because he cannot work on his fish trap while tending fire and handling camp chores. Things get worse when he nearly burns down the shelter and has to take part of it apart. When Patrick and Allison return, arguments erupt over Shawn being left alone, the shelter damage, and the fact that Patrick and Allison could have used his help carrying supplies back. By the end of the episode, Boat 1’s survival problems are being matched by their social problems.
