Episode Synopsis
In “Bow Up or Bow Down,” the Global Showdown teams enter day seven with the pressure of the first elimination hanging over the bottom of the leaderboard. Mexico is feeling defeated after failing to produce with either the bow or fishing kit, while Texas sits just above them in second-to-last place but at least has meat in camp from Jeff’s warthog kill. At the top, USA South enjoys the rewards of first place, eating ostrich eggs and looking strong.
The food gap begins to shift again when Brazil’s Rene lands a shot on a nyala. At first he worries the hit may not be fatal, but he successfully recovers the animal, giving Brazil a major boost. Mexico then gets its own breakthrough when Pablo shoots and kills a warthog, forcing the team to quickly think about meat storage and hyena protection by building a separate boma.
On day eight, the first elimination challenge begins with Texas facing Mexico. The task is to start a fire using only a damp log, a knife, and a firestarter, then build the flames high enough to burn through a rope and release a hanging rock. With a storm moving in and winds picking up, both teams struggle to split the wet log and create enough tinder, kindling, and fuel. Texas splits the log first, but Mexico finds momentum when Fernanda gets fire started, only to have the wind blow it out.
As conditions worsen, Jeff begins to panic and Texas gets sloppy. Both teams scrape magnesium from their firestarters and fight to keep flames alive. Texas briefly gets fire, then loses it. Mexico gets its fire going again, and Texas follows, but Mexico builds better flame height and wins the challenge. Fernanda is ecstatic, while Texas becomes the first team eliminated from Global Showdown, a nightmare ending for Jeff and Kerra after entering the day with meat, tools, and momentum.
After the elimination, the remaining teams return to survival. Australia is still desperate for a major food source, with Ky getting close to a nyala before the wind turns and spooks it. USA Pacific is also struggling, with Dan in extreme pain from his back injury and frustrated by the physical burden he feels he is carrying. While Rachel fishes, Dan goes hunting and shoots a female nyala, successfully tracking it down for a confirmed kill. The meat gives USA Pacific a badly needed boost, though Rachel, who is mostly vegetarian, struggles with the process of butchering and preserving it.
With so many teams now holding meat, predators become a bigger threat. USA Pacific builds a separate boma and fire to smoke and protect their nyala, but hyenas move in close during the night. Meanwhile, Australia continues to go hungry until Alexa finally catches a catfish, giving them their first real food win after days of failure.
The next scroll announces a primitive bow-building challenge. Teams have 48 hours to craft and test a bow using paracord and provided arrows, with 50 points awarded for a successful build. Matt, Frank, and Rene all have prior bow-making experience, giving USA East, USA South, and Brazil an early advantage. Frank completes his self bow first, followed by Matt and Gabrielle with their English long bow-style builds, and Rene with a carefully heat-treated bow he names Orion.
Mexico also completes its bow and earns the points, while USA Pacific pushes through despite worsening tension between Dan and Rachel. Rachel wants more of an equal role, but Dan continues to dismiss her input, keeping their team chemistry strained even after they finish the bow build. Australia has the roughest path, with Ky struggling to understand the bow design and cracking her first attempt before starting over with a thinner, more flexible piece of wood. By the end, the remaining teams except Australia have earned their bow-build points, but the episode closes with USA Pacific fractured, Australia still fighting for momentum, and the competition reshaped after Texas’ elimination.
