The Olympics of Survival

In the premiere of Global Showdown, “The Olympics of Survival,” fourteen survivalists enter South Africa for a 40-day competition with $200,000 on the line. Unlike a standard challenge, the survivalists are divided into seven regional teams, each representing where they are from: Eastern USA, Mexico, Texas, Australia, Pacific Coast USA, Brazil, and the Southern USA.

The teams are Matt Wright and Gabrielle Balassone, Pablo Melin Dorador and Fernanda Perez, Jeff Zausch and Kerra Bennett, Ky Furneaux and Alexa Towersey, Dan Link and Rachel Caroline Strohl, Marina Lara Fukushima and Rene Murad, and Frank Eytcheson and Teal Bulthius. To stay safe from elimination, teams must earn points by completing survival challenges, with tools and assets awarded as prizes.

On day one, each team receives kukri knives and rope, which they must use to retrieve a bundle of supplies suspended in a tree. Inside are critical survival items: a pot, cotton, two hides, and a small knife. Their first 24-hour test is simple but urgent: build a boma, start a primitive fire, and boil water before time runs out. As the sun sets over South Africa, the new competition format begins with every team racing to prove they can survive — and win.
