Episode Synopsis
In “Fire and Pain,” the Global Showdown teams continue battling for points, tools, and safety in South Africa. After the first round, only three teams successfully completed primitive fire, leaving Texas, Mexico, Brazil, and Pacific USA tied at the bottom with only a firestarter earned. USA East and Australia sit tied for first, with USA South close behind.
Day two brings a mandatory torch-making challenge and an optional bridge-building challenge to access better hunting grounds. Australia, Texas, USA East, and Pacific USA attempt the bridge first, while the other teams focus on torches. Most teams recover and complete both tasks, but Texas struggles late into the day before Jeff finishes the bridge while Kerra works on the torch. By the end, every team completes the torch challenge, though communication issues begin showing, especially between Dan and Rachel on Pacific USA.
The next test raises the stakes: teams must light their torches, burn ropes to release a rock and paracord bundle, then use those materials to build a suspended deadfall trap capable of smashing a gourd. Brazil and Mexico struggle badly with torch design and fail to advance, earning zero points for the round. USA East finishes the torch challenge first, but the deadfall build proves technical and frustrating for everyone.
USA South’s Frank and Teal shine under pressure, finishing the trap challenge first. Matt and Gabrielle take second for USA East, Australia finishes third, Pacific USA fourth, and Texas fifth. The new standings put USA East in first, followed by Australia, USA South, Pacific USA, Texas, Brazil, and Mexico. As the episode ends, Dan’s lower back pain forces him to call in the medic, putting Pacific USA’s future in question.
