In a first of a kind challenge, returning legends Ky Furneaux & Dan Link spend two weeks in the monsoon season on an island in Thailand with NO TOOLS. Early efforts are focused on building a lean to shelter, built with bamboo, palm fronds & debries to stay warm during expected monsoon rains. They ultilze the inner bark of beach hibiscus for durable lashings. Without a pot to boil water, Ky & Dan depend on coconuts for hydration. The plan then becomes to build a gutter system on the shelter to collect rain water. Normally the strategy is water before fire, but without any rain they switch their focus to building a fire without any tools. It becomes challenging to start a friction fire in the humid environment. They first use a bow drill, then move onto a fire saw. When those techniques fail, they pivot to fire by flint precussion, which succeeds. With fire sorted, Ky & Dan can turn their attention to finding something to eat other than raw coconut, which is giving them the runs. They cook some hermit crabs, which taste gross. Five days in, and still no rain for the gutter system. Attempts at boililng water in bamboo fails. Finally, it rains and the gutter system is proved a success. Feeling rejuvinated with fresh water, the survivalists focus back on food. Dan builds a 4-prong bamboo spear to easily hunt for crabs on the beach. After a successfull challenge, they build a bamboo raft and float to the extraction point.
