Naked and Afraid — Season 1
Naked and Afraid's first season aired between June 23 and July 28, 2013, launching Discovery Channel's flagship survival series across six standalone episodes. Each week sent a new pair of strangers into a different environment for a scheduled 21-day challenge. The premiere "The Jungle Curse" opened in Costa Rican rainforest, then came the Tanzanian savanna, a Maldives sandbar, Panama's Caribbean coast, Malaysian Borneo, and finally the Louisiana bayou for "Beware the Bayou."
The debut season introduced twelve survivalists who would go on to shape the franchise. Ky Furneaux, Laura Zerra, EJ Snyder, and Kellie Nightlinger all made their first appearance here, alongside Alison Teal, Puma Cabra, Shane Lewis, and Kim Shelton. The season established every convention that later editions inherited: the naked-and-afraid drop-in, the PSR (Primitive Survival Rating), the partner conflict arc, and the 21-day extraction ritual.
